It is birthday party season! We went to Sophie's birthday party today. Miss Sophie, who was turning 3, is in Nathan's class at the private preschool/daycare. I had some concerns about how this would be for Nathan, since the last birthday party we attended seemed to involve a lot of clinging behavior, and about how it would be for me to see him with a whole crowd of typically developing kiddos. The party was held outdoors at a playground, which helped to minimize any sensory problems.
Sophie loves Nathan with an ardor and fervor that are not always returned. When Sophie saw Nathan, she immediately ran to him and began kissing him. At least initially, she wanted to be where Nathan was and to not be where he wasn't-- if Nathan didn't want to explore the bouncy house, then neither did she.
That lasted maybe 10 minutes. Bouncy houses
are a lot of fun. But she does love Nathan, and later wanted to push him on the swing.
Maddie saw this and wanted to push too.
So cute! And Nathan did well. He didn't quite get the concept of hitting the pinata with the stick, preferring to play with the streamers on the stick instead, but he enjoyed playing and eating with his friends. He even braved the bouncy house... for a minute.
