Nathan had a little episode in which he lost his beloved Tag Reader somewhere in our house last Friday. And on a possibly related note, we noticed our toilet in the master bathroom no longer works properly. Sigh. The landlord is coming to look at it today so we may see if a little electronic toy lies within. Nathan's grandma was visiting and bought him a new one as an early birthday present, after a couple days of Nathan asking for Nemo and getting reminded that our toys don't go in the toilet or they are broken, followed by Nathan moaning and groaning pathetically. His great-grandma was also visiting and bought him a Disney princess Tag book, so now we have some new vocabulary words like "beautiful" and "sparkling". Funny how the games in the back are kinda gender-stereotyped-- helping Cinderella clean and choosing fruit at some kind of market stand with Jasmine. Huh. And he has just received his very own princess name, so now the book tells him "Princess Magical Diamond, you found it!" and so forth. Nathan seems totally unperturbed about being called princess magical diamond.

Princess Squeaky Cianna has some baby acne, which is less than cute. She's spending more time awake, although that seems to equate to more time a little cranky and wanting to be latched on to mom or walked around in the Moby Wrap. Sadly, she far prefers a human pacifier to a plastic one. She's 5 weeks old, and is definitely intentionally batting at toys. I remember waiting and waiting for Nathan to do this, to connect the idea that he could move his arms on purpose and make things happen instead of just hitting the toys randomly. This came so quickly for his sister, one of the many things that will come more easily. She also seems to me to be pretty strong for a 5 week old in terms of head control and overall muscle tone, but she's probably right on track and it only seems amazing to me.
Development IS amazing, though, no matter the pace. It is amazing to watch the growth and progression, and even though it's wonderful to see it happen on time and easily, it's also sweet when it's hard-won and long-anticipated.
