Inclusion!

We found out this summer that they had combined Nathan's class with a younger class due to low numbers. We talked at that time about an IEP meeting to add time in general education. Then the new teacher left after 2 1/2 days and they were looking at a long term sub in a class I was already not happy about. This week we were able to complete the IEP and move Nathan's primary placement to general education with a paraeducator to support him. He will be in a very nice 3/4 combination Montessori class, with brief visits to his old class twice a day (totaling 35 minutes, to participate in their circle times which he enjoys). This week they have been increasing his time in that class. He has gone to computer lab and science class, and been in his new class for work periods. In Montessori the students spend time working on individual tasks independently and so Nathan works on his individual tasks in parallel with the support of his paraeducator. I'm hearing positive feedback from the general Ed teacher, the paraeducator and from other parents of students in the class. And, importantly, from Nathan! I really feel this was the right decision and he will learn so much! Here is a link to video of Nathan talking about his day. Soo Hee is his paraeducator.
